Described as "a colorful cellist of many temperaments," Erika Nielsen has a multi-faceted career as a collaborative artist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and educator. Her musicianship spans the classical tradition to contemporary and popular genres. In summer of 2015, Erika premiered a new Canadian music drama, The Bells of Baddeck at the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and completed a tour of Canadian contemporary opera throughout Nova Scotia and Ontario, on bicycle, as a member of The Bicycle Opera Project. She is a featured artist with Westwood Concerts, a chamber series at Gallery 345, who's 2015 season finale included Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. ?Erika worked as Principal Cellist of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, where she headlined as concerto soloist, performed recitals, and was an instructor at the conservatory of music. She performs with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Ontario, and was a member of the Royal Conservatory Orchestra, Kingston Symphony Association, and the Glenn Gould New Music Ensemble. Erika was also a selected fellow for the 2014 Tafelmusik Summer Baroque Institute. As a session musician, Erika has had the privilege of performing with Grammy-winning artist Kanye West for MTV Canada and Live at the Concert Hall series, and frequents with Canadian songwriter Jeffery Straker. She has recorded for many artists, such as The Trews and for the 2014 JUNO-nominated album by Splash 'n Boots. From 2008-11 she was a member of minimalist ensemble Muskox, featuring the music of Toronto composer Michael Smith. She currently performs with 25 piece Toronto Motown band, The Big Sound, Classic Albums Live, and ELO tribute band, Strange Magic. Born in West Germany, Erika has performed at festivals such as the Banff Centre, Schloss Beuggen, Germany, Le Domaine Forget, and the Toronto Summer Music Festival. She holds an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School, as a student of David Hetherington, and is a graduate of Queen’s University, Kingston. She maintains a busy freelance career and private studio in Toronto, and also teaches for Havergal College.

Carol Allen

Cellist / Conductor

Caron is a graduate from Queen's University School of Music as a double performance major on flute and cello. She has been teaching string and band programs in the Kingston and the GTA area for over 20 years. After playing in Europe and relocating in the Peel region, she founded two string programs and her orchestras and bands have won numerous awards at various provincial music festivals. Additionally, Caron has performed as a professional cellist in orchestras across Ontario including the Kingston, Windsor, Niagara, Oakville, Mississauga, Oshawa-Durham and the Royal Opera Canada Orchestras. Caron currently lives and works in Mississauga with her husband and two children. She teaches vocal and instrumental music with the Peel District School Board, as well as private students. Despite her busy schedule, Ms. Allen joined Klaudia's Music Studio in 2008 as a cello teacher. We are honored to have her, although only for one day a week. She is a fine cello player and a patient instructor, well admired by her students. Her skills greatly improve the standards of the studio.
